Latest News / President's Report - April 2021

Wow how time is flying and I hope everyone was able to have a great break over Easter and our Anzac Day long weekend. It only seems like yesterday that we were all locked down and could not celebrate these holidays due to Covid-19 so it was nice to be able to take time out.

The CPD road shows are now starting back in full swing so please book a space through It will start in Kerikeri on the 3rd May 2021.

Our association will be having its annual general meeting on the 20th of May from 6 pm to 8.30 pm at the Onehunga Community house, 83 Selwyn Street, Onehunga. Garry Cruikshank and Don Mardle will be unveiling their research on wetbacks.  "Thermodynamic flow characteristics of passive thermosyphon energy transfer from independent heat source to remote storage unit both direct and indirect systems." Please make sure you RSVP to this event.

Chesters had another great evening attended by many in the gas industry which answered many questions for worried gasfitters and suppliers. More evenings like this one are needed to inform gasfitters and others in the industry of the proposed changes. We will continue to keep you updated and post any information around these changes through our social media sites.

In other industry news Martin Sawyers is leaving his role as CEO of the Plumbers, Gasfitters Drainlayers Board to take up the CEO position of the Transport Accident Investigation Commission. I wish Martin all the success in his new role and he will be missed in our industry.

I am running another backflow course for those interested in becoming IQP registered or require refreshers of their skills run again over two Fridays 21st of May and the 28th of May. To book you can ring me on 0274 345 096.

Supervision of our workers is a very important part of our licence requirements. It is often overlooked so for this reason our Top Tech Tip refers to the information that the PDGB put out there on this topic. There is also consultation on the topic of supervision of trainees in their first 12 months and possibly removing the requirement of the certifier to be in direct presence of the trainee. I suggest if you have not already done so have your say by making a submission these close on the 14th of May.

That’s it from me and remember if you are not a member of our Association then you are missing out.

Happy reading!
