Latest News / PRESIDENT'S REPORT - March 2019

A warm welcome to all our members and to all who read our News Flush.

It would only be appropriate to start this report with remembrance for the victims of Christchurch and their families. We truly grieve as one nation and an industry united for you and your families. We are one people love will triumph over hate.

So many great things are happening to our Association and for our industry, one of these is our relationship with Federation and how we are two other industry organisations that government are starting to recognize finally no more one voice policy.

I have had the pleasure of representing our Association and Auckland in going to Wellington to the Work Safe Standards NZ Energy Forum to talk about how our industry plays a part in the future of New Zealand’s energy needs. This was a great experience and I have networked with many people who share similar views to our Association I look forward to a great relationship with MBI and Standards New Zealand.

As you are aware, we are having an industry “Meet the Inspectors” night on Wednesday the 3rd of April at The Remuera Club, 27- 33 Ohinerau Street, Remuera from 6.30 pm onwards.

I would now like to take the time to introduce the inspectors from Auckland Council. John Tagiilima the team leader of inspections, Neil Rennie Technical Assessor in building control and Gary Cruickshank senior specialist and targeted initiatives. John manages the team of inspectors Neil looks after assessing the work done by inspectors and Gary gets involved or deals with issues when things go very wrong (no easy feat). I am looking forward to a great night of talking and engaging with the team so please take advantage of my invitation to bring yourself and your staff along.

We are also representing members and companies who have apprentices going to Unitec and I take this time to thank Grant Mason for his contributions on this stakeholder’s group.

I would also like to congratulate NZMA and the students who recently graduated from PDG 3 level 3 Pre trade trainees some have already been placed with members of our Association. If you want an apprentice please don’t hesitate to call the NZMA team and discuss options available to you as an employer.

I would also like to take time to acknowledge Brett Matson and his incredible contribution to our industry but more so to our Association. Brett has decided to retire from my board and I can only say that he will be truly missed as he has been a great mentor to me and helped in the decision making processes of our Association.

Once again, I urge all of you to join our Association if you are not a member because your views and say are important to us and the industry.

I am truly proud to be your President and to be part of an Association that truly represents the industry.

That’s it from me,

Happy reading!
