Latest News / President's Report - October 2019

I would first like to welcome our new members and associate members  to our Association.

Another busy month for our Association and industry.

I would like to take the opportunity to talk about how safe your business may be after issues arising like the gas incident in Christchurch or the fire at Sky City Convention Centre. Take some time to look at your insurance and the size of the contracts you are doing. Remember on large jobs that go wrong for unforeseen reasons like this fire it can be a domino affect for other contractors relying on payments from contracts etc. My advice, don’t put your eggs in one basket and make sure you have the correct amount of insurance because one small mistake can lead to millions in damages or lost contract payments.

Upskilling of staff is a vital part of any business and we are now looking at managing bookings for members for courses like working for heights, First Aid and Confined space another great reason for belonging to our organisation. I am running another IQP backflow course in the last week of November so please contact me if you are interested on 0274 345 096.

Our association was asked by consumer to comment on products that may or may not be septic tank friendly so don’t forget to look at the article as most cleaners don’t measure up. These products can damage the good bacteria found in tanks and consumers don’t even know or understand this.

We have also been in contact with the government regarding the proposed changes to tertiary and he has advised me we will be involved at an advisory level when the time comes.

I have been busy training pre traders at NZMA and there are some great opportunities for employers to take on a new apprentice who has good basic trade skills. If you are interested please contact me on 0274 345 096 or NZMA direct some of our members have already taken my pre traders and had good results.

Don’t forget to check out our Top Tech Tip on tools and tidy vans and have a safe labour weekend on the roads.

Once again, I urge all of you to join our Association. If you are not a member because your views and say are important to the Association  and our industry.

I am truly proud to be your president and to be part of an Association that truly represents the industry.

That’s it from me,

Happy reading!
